Maria Nepomuceno Brazilian artists creates pieces using traditional Latin American craft techniques, woven forms made of rope straw and beads and other objects!! Her use of colour is amazing as are the meaning behind her pieces!! She creates outdoor and indoor installations!!
I love her work it is so colourful and interesting, the way she connects each piece and displays them!!
The above image Nepomuceno explains:
'Through the spiral movement of the sewing of ropes and necklaces (the same movement of the DNA, umbilical cord, planets, cyclones,…) it is possible to feel the PULSATION of matter that has the real desire of being in tune with our pulsation.'
Our materials are similar although techniques are very different, her work is based on movement and she creates this by connecting her pieces. I am working on connections, overlapping of lines taken the underground space that roots create and creating it in another context and taking over spaces! I am trying to bring the underground to the surface and experimenting with scale, form, colour and location.
In the above piece she is showing her connections with DNA, umbilical cord etc and how she is connected to it all as this installation is created at her birth place!! I love how the bright blue looks against the colour of the roof and her red dress against the colour of the grass!! Just again is a great example of why I love to use bright bold colours in my own work it makes the piece!! Could not imagine this being Black of a dule colour it just would not work!! It reminds me of my outdoor installation below and how the colours look against the grass!!
